Great book

This book is just as the title suggests - a veritable tomb of funnies and trivia for children to engage with. That said, keep in mind that this book is filled with Christian content (the term “Bible” applies to many groups, and the reviewer happens to be Jewish). Knock-knocks, fill-in-the-blanks, multiple choice, letter scrambles, and other brain games will keep youth entertained for hours (or in my case, maybe a few minutes).Reviewing the jokes, I can say with certainly that some of them are quite cheesy (especially that one about Swiss), but many of them are great and ones I would recommend sharing with others. While I don’t have a need for the whole book, I know others who certainly would enjoy it all. This book is a great gift idea for kids, and if you’re Jewish like me, use a sharpie to black out all the Christian jokes before sharing. Troy comes up with some clever and sometimes corny jokes that you will enjoy sharing with your children and even your own balding father. I know my children enjoyed the sometimes corny jokes and not only were all of them simply jokes, but some of them were actually also packed with facts, just said in a funny way that would make the facts stick in your mind.In addition to the jokes, there is a lot of good trivia and facts about the Bible and it is put in a way that kids get it and they remember what it said. Troy explains the facts in a way that is very easy for children to understand and connect with and there was quite a bit of trivia in there that even I, as an adult, wasn’t really familiar with. You will find facts and trivia ranging from the first pages of the Old Testament to the last page of the New Testament. The trivia comes in Q&A form, did you know, matching and a variety of ways to keep any reader interested. There are even some questions to discuss as a family on what you thought about certain aspects in and of the Bible.At the end, a message of Salvation is easily explained and spelled out for kids with biblical references. Troy realizes that a lot of kids like to be hands on when they are having fun learning, so he includes fill in the blanks throughout the book, but in the last few pages of the book, he includes a few blank pages and general instruction of some things for the kids to do in the back of the book. Kids are encouraged to write their own jokes and trivia and draw a sketch on their favorite Bible stories.This was a great book to help kids (and adults) learn parts of the Bible in a fun way. I learned some new knowledge and I know my kids and husband did as well. As with all of Prof. Daileader’s lectures, this was well done. He blends good content with dry humor and effective ways of explaining things to all of us ordinary people. I highly recommend all three of his middle ages lectures.

In a nutshell, "The High Middle Ages" was very educational - the subject matter was highly interesting and provided about the right amount of depth versus breadth - and also entertaining - the lecturer (Professor Daileader) has a great style and delivery.

Simply wonderful lectures. If you care for historical investigation done right, you will enjoy these lectures greatly.

OK, now I am completely certain that Professor Daileader knows much more about Medieval history than I do. That is a given. What bothered me was that during the lecture on heresies, he said there were NO heresies in the church prior to the High Middle Ages and he said the reason he was saying that was because it was only in the High Middle Ages when heresy became widespread. Obviously, he talked about the Bogomil, Waldensian and the Cathars heresies that the church had to deal with starting in the 11th century.However, what about the Arian heresy and the Donatist heresy of the 4th and 5th centuries? It seems to me that Professor Daileader's assertion is that nobody seriously questioned the church in the Early Middle Ages. However, Arianism was considered a big "problem" for the early medieval church, since Theodoric and the Ostrogoths were converted by Arian missionaries. The only reason that Arianism died out, from my limited understanding is because immediately after Theodoric's death, the Ostrogothic kingdom collapsed, thereby paving the way for Clovis and Charlemagne to conquer and effectively "Catholicize" the European continent through conquest. The Ostrogoths, for awhile at least, appeared in Italy and were widespread from anything I have read. Clovis chose Catholicism over Arianism, feeling that it would benefit the Franks politically, which is exactly what happened.Having said that, both Donatism and Arianism were definitely considered by both the church and contemporaries to be heretical in every sense of the word. So, I'm not sure why Daileader says there were no heresies until the High Middle Ages. He should know better.

Excellent presentation and informative content. Has made me rethink my views of the Middle Ages.

All three of these courses are exceptional, and it yearn for more lectures from Phillip.Also worthy are the videos as well. Please put more on from this brilliant professor.

A poor speaker who uses inflated and redundant descriptors tirelessly. I listened to this professor's entire Early Middle Ages lecture, which was brutal, but after an hour I am done with this one. The final straw was when he described the demesne. It is pronounced de-MAIN, not de-MEZ-na, which is just evidence item #345 of a person who does not know what he's talking about.

I love the Work of E.A.Koetting, I follow him on all social media platforms. I love his extensive knowledge of history. He really does Seek, Ask, and Knock. He goes where most would not venture in the search for Truth.My only gripe is that in the Kindle edition there are some grammatical errors, missing words, and in Volume 3; Book of Spells, the Conjuring Wealth Ritual is missing the Tools and the Ritual preparations which are found in the hard copies. If these are corrected I will edit this and change it to 5 stars. I hope that E.A.Koetting can read my review and make the necessary changes.The Demons are the Original gods before the Christian cults bastardized them into devilish beings that want to corrupt us and steal our souls. That's a Christian myth, an assumption rooted in fear, ignorance, and superstition.The "Demons" really are the Scarecrows guarding the Truth.Sorcery is the manipulation of astral energies, whether they be of one's own (internal pranas, soul) or another's (spirit's or other people's soul).Sorcery, in a nutshell, simply means the act of causing astral forces (energy) to effect this physical plane. Thus, many sorcerers devote their time to idolizing certain astral beings who help their Ascent in this physical life, and beyond.Two types, internal and external.Manipulation of astral energy of internal spirits is Yoga/Meditation. Manipulation of astral energy of external spirits is Summoning/Conjuring.Interesting enough is that the Ritual of Christian Worship is no different than the ritual of spirit summoning, except that in the 3 parasitic religions, the name of god is unknown and the blood sacrifice in Christianity is watered down, they use wine or grape juice as the symbolic representation of Jesus' blood, thus making their petitions very ineffective. I was disappointed with this anthology. The writing is rather shoddy, the concepts dubious, the material derivative; most of it reads like the imaginings of second-rate, drug-addled, high-school educated occult enthusiasts with a superficial knowledge of metaphysics gleaned from popular occult texts, fantasy literature and movies. You certainly won't become a living god by reading this; the only semi-effective magick I found was the marketing—the BALG crew's only real strong point.

This is a decent size that fits comfortably in the hands, and reads well. I had thought I’d missed out on this and the binding holds up securely thus far, with some abuse on my part. The print is easy to read and formatted nicely.

I decided to read everything on the subject and as much on anything that touched it as I could.Really, this is neither. It's the story of one man's involvement in those markets. But even more about his involvement in what having the wealth of that position can do to a young and spoiled man.Still, no information is bad information. So is does serve to illuminate what at least some of those who nearly destroyed the worldwide financial markets did with all that money they earned. Nice to know it was used so wisely.If you like peaking into the lives of the rich, privileged, spoiled, and drug addled, you'll enjoy this. If you want to see where part of your 401k went, here ya go.If you want more, read 'Too Big To Fail' or 'Traders, Guns and Money' or any of the other 20-30 serious or semi-serious volumes on the excesses.

Fascinating story. this is a well written book offering excellent insights into the dark side of hedge fund traders and Wall Streeet. As a former equity salesperson, I used to observe the crazy and immature antics of the (mostly male) traders on the trading floor and often wondered what happened to them. I'm sorry those wild parties expensed as 'client entertainment' facilitated your addiction. Turney, thank you for sharing this painful story with such honesty and candor. It was interesting to learn how hedge funds generate fake trades to boost their commission base with brokers. Most importantly, if your book motivates brokerage firms and their clients to examine their entertainment practices -- you will have accomplished more than anyone. Thank you.

You don't need to know anything about the market or hedge funds to read and understand the author's story. He write it in a way that you can understand and actually learn what was going on in the markets. You'll hear about his childhood and how he came to be a trader on the buy side. You'll hear his stories of wild excesses. You'll hear of the birth of his daughter and how his addiction to cocaine and alcohol lead him to 2 stints at rehab. All of this to come to his true passion of writing. The book is well done, entertaining and educational.

I devoured this book in an afternoon - the honest brutality of the story, the fast pace of Turney's life as everything spills out in the present tense, as well as the darkest side of his addiction did not let me put my Kindle down.Granted, I might be a little partial, as there are many parts that resonate with some of my crazy years in NY and London, but what really tugged at me - and sometimes made me cringe - is how anyone, even a nice boy from PA, can descend into a dark abyss without realizing how fast he's falling until it's too late.I think this is more than a Wall Street tale: any industry that can make you feel rich and powerful so quickly can be intoxicating...the lyrics to Mr Brownstone by GnR could be the soundtrack to the second part of this story, when the train Turney is on loses control and heads to its final wreck.You will giggle, laugh, cringe and even feel repulsed as Turney unravels - all of this as we relive in amazing details the internet bubble, the 9/11 tragedy, the 2007 subprime crash.An awesome bio - I was simply left wanting more.

I really like this fast read with great info. The first 39% covers how a non Ivy graduate with meager talent ends up low level Wall Street and eventually on the "buy" side at hedge funds: and these are real player hedge funds which you now see on the front page of the WSJ. This is the best part, fast furious and informative. Now, it will make you wonder why you invest with all the shenanigans being pulled. From there he follows a mentor from a poor work environment to new glamour as a real trader with power to make brokers wealthy. And for this chance the brokers party and buy drugs. Too much drugs as he eventually is hooked and work suffers. All this happens as he falls in love and has a baby. The last part of the book is a drug story. Some funny, some sad. But not as exciting as the first 39%. I recommend the book for a story of the good and bad on Wall Street. Just be prepared for the drug story also.

This book started slow for me. After a few pages and early chapters, I though "this is a bit of a sensationalist, toilet reading, the like of what Ben Mezrich would write". And yet, not before long the book completely absorbed me and I could not put it down till I finished it. Turney Duff has real talent in telling stories and captivating the reader, with very vivid depiction of his adventures and misadventures. Brutally honest in so many ways, and yet lacking in others (details, for example, as other reviewers have mentioned). It reminded me of Michael Lewis's Liar's Poker, though Lewis ' writing is a bit more refined.Overall, the book is truly sad. The guy made so much money and he blew it. After he seemed to settle down, found a girl he fell in love with, he blew a chance to be close to her and his daughter. Although he eventually seemed to pull himself sober, and says he is happier now - I can't stop feeling bad for the guy, and am overwhelmed by how sad his story is. I give the book 4 stars, because his style at times is uncomfortably colloquial and conversational. Also, some of the jumps from story to story feel a bit abrupt.Nonetheless, a memorable book - one that's going to stay with me for a while. This is one of those books that should help wise men differentiate from smart men: learn from other people's experiences, not just from your own. Going to work in a high profile, highly competitive and flashy place like Wall Street? Read this book.

About the Author

My name is Donna Codell. I was born and raised in the Chicagoland area. I attended Southern Illinois University where I met my husband, Evan Michael, and married him in 1969. We were blessed with our daughter, Jennifer, in 1972. At the age of 2½, Jennifer was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) - a genetic disease - and we dedicated our lives to maintaining Jennifer's ability to fight the debilitating effects of CF. In those days, the average life expectancy of children with CF was 15 years. Before the diagnosis, I worked in a physician's group practice and began to learn the importance of good health. In the daily battle with Jennifer's condition, I became a fervent believer that good nutrition and an active lifestyle would be critical to our success. As Jennifer was approaching 40, still fighting the disease that claimed many in their teens, I felt we had a winning formula! This proved to be providential when my husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in March 2012. The doctors gave him six months which, with good nutrition and regular activity, his life was extended to almost 5 years until finally succumbed in December 2016. Our final project together as a couple is represented in the book, "There Are No Alligators in Heaven!" This is our way of telling Jennifer's story of positive thinking, physical resilience, and inner strength. Hopefully, her life's course will inspire others who are dealing with their own challenges. Since my husband and daughter have both passed away, I educate and support others on their road to a healthy lifestyle. This is an amazing story of a family and their journey through life. Their daughter Jennifer was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when she was two and she lived a full and good life until she passed away at age 43. Much longer than most with this disease. I was in awe of their love and devotion to each other. The mom/dad and daughter threesome, such a journey and done with such care. This was not an easy journey at all, so many trials and tribulations, but such strength throughout. A must read. Jennifer was an amazingly strong woman, was married to a loving husband and had 18 years together. He was her rock. I am in awe of this whole family. The dad developed lung cancer, stage four and passed away as well. The daughter and father duo were solid throughout their time sharing such a devastating thing. Please read this book. Life changing.

This is a story of tragedy faced with courage, honesty and humor. So real, it feells like you are on this journey yourself. A quick read that leaves you more aware.and empathetic. It's hero's journey!

If you know of a person or family struggling with a challenging diagnosis, get this book and read it and then give it to them.It’s an honor and privilege to write my review of Donna’s book. The purpose of Donna’s book it to bring hope to those challenged with a health challenge, for Donna’s daughter it was Cystic Fibrosis, (CF) and her husband, Cancer. Sadly, Donna not only lost her daughter to CF but during the same struggling time she lost her husband to Cancer. To hear how Donna, Jennifer and Evan Michael maneuvered the roller coaster ride of both Jennifer and Evan Michael’s health challenges is a miracle in motion; in addition their health challenges brought forth Donna’s heath challenges. A roller coaster ride that continues today as Donna brings forth her message of inspiration, love, faith, family, hope, gratitude, attitude, wisdom and the power of nutrition and self-care.There are many messages and words of wisdom throughout the book that can only come from someone who is on their journey seen through the eyes of a terminal illness. The ability to face the daily challenges of a terminal illness and see the power of looking at the glass half full as opposed to half empty is powerfully inspiring and healing.One of the best words of advice (there are many more so get this book) is on page 144 from Donna’s now deceased husband. He talks about how to talk to a person who is struggling on their journey and what it’s best to NOT to say. Don’t ask “How are you today?” Instead ask, “Who do you want me to be for you today?” Then shut up and listen and do what they tell you. They may need a hug, they may need you to listen and they might want you to just be silent.Jennifer, Evan Michael and Donna are amazing people and now it’s Donna’s mission to carry forth the message of hope and the power of nutrition for bringing the body into balance so that it can heal its self.I know you might be thinking, but Jennifer and Evan still died. This book really touched my heart. The parents in this book, especially the mother showed such love, devotion, strength and vulnerability in this book. It really shows how strong parents can be in the midst of tragedy. To lose a child is heartbreaking, but to work day and night to try to keep this from happening must have been such an exhausting labor of love. The daughter showed such strength and determination in the face of her illness. The entire family supported each other every single day. I know that the month of December will forever more be a difficult month for Donna to weather.
