If you've recently taken algebra, this book is probably a sufficient review. If you've been out from any kind of math since high school, this book was not adequate in the review process. It did have good advice on test taking strategies and which formulas to memorize for the test. I relied heavily on Khan Academy to supplement the content of this book. My main issue was the lack of practice problems, and somewhat cumbersome explanations of certain math concepts. I'd recommend downloading more practice problems from the Internet. The online practice tests did not adequately explain wrong answers. On the upside, the practice tests were much harder than the actual CLEP test. Generally, you need 50 to count. I got a 71 out of a maximum score of 80. I prepped seriously for 2 months, and I hadn't taken any math classes in 17 years.

This book was not very true to the actual CLEP exam. The exam I took was much easier and more straightforward than the practice questions and exams in this book.For context, I am a returning college student, never been great at math and hadn't done it for 10 years when I picked up this book. I have always been a decent test takerand good student. I relied heavily on my family members and other sources to prepare for this exam, but this was my main print resource. I got a 67 on the exam (out of 80), so I ended up doing pretty well.In terms of teaching, I found this book was a little confusing. I relied heavily on the Khan Academy, which explained the concepts in a much better and simpler way. For some reason, this book was one of the only ones I could find for this test, so I got it despite lackluster reviews. A lot of the content was helpful and relevant, but I felt over prepared and not focused enough to reflect the exam content.

Did not help me pass the exam. Had to take the class, 2 times actually and the material in class ways quite different than the book. If you struggle in math... find an online College algebra course to take is your best bet.

Honestly, the book is written like a stereo instruction manual. The online portion is only the exams verbatim in the book. So, what they call a tool is really just a waste of time. It explains problems in a way that makes you even more confused by reading it.

This is a very good CLEP study guide. I am a teacher and my students said this book prepared them the best of any others, even the one put out by CLEP. This is highly recommended. Not sure about the actual study materials part, we mainly focused on the practice. It came with an online practice which was helpful.

I took College Algebra in HS and attempted the CLEP around 3 years later. I spent about five serious days studying (6+ hours a day) and took the test. I passed. The book is a sufficient review and the online tests are beneficial too. If I would have spent more time in the book, I could have received a higher score off this book.

This was semi-useful. I used this AND A LOT of other references (YouTube videos were the biggest help). I scored a 70 on the CLEP test but again, you CANNOT rely on just this book.

This title was recommended to me by a friend, and am glad as a pastor I read it. The author is right on target with his remarks aimed at over-worked ministers who struggle with finding energy to meet all the demands placed upon them. Jones is emphatic about clergy needing to have intentional, regular periods of rest and renewal. Drawing heavily upon the analogy of Jesus sleeping in the back of the boat during a storm, he insists that as disciples of Jesus we too need to find our way often to the back of the "boat."This book is a great investment -- it's well worth the money and time spent!

Great book that made me sit back and look at my own self-care in the area of rest. Being in inner-city urban ministry in New York City, you feel like you have to be like your city, and never sleep! I've learned better now!

Truly brings home the fact that caregivers and those in service to others (whether in ministry or other types of service-oriented work) really need to learn how to rest...to take some time to care for ourselves.

This is a wonderful resource, not only for study, but also for nurturing prayer life. It reminds us who is really the heart of our ministry.

This hit home, and was such a good reminder to remember to be. It also provided strategies to implement a savoring and sabbatth pace. Highly recommended.

Este libro es una especie de autobiografía del escritor, matizada con anécdotas, recuerdos, e historia política de Colombia.Es cierto que tiene pasajes bastante amenos e interesantes, donde el autor nos deleita con su prosa, pero por momentos se pierde el hilo de la lectura, en un sin fin de recuerdos de parientes, amigos, y conocidos del escritor que la hacen algo densa y repetitiva la historia.De todos modos es una lectura recomendable, no es lo mejor de Garcia Marquez pero vale la pena leerlo.

As always GGM's writing style is extremely engrossing and adicting. I would rank this book right up there with his best novels.Others have discussed the content, so I won't repeat what others have written. I will only say that GGM had a very interesting life, and he relates it in his incomparable literary style.

I have not finished reading this book but as always I love his work. It is nice to get a glimpse on his life as a young man in Colombia and his early dreams and aspirations and seeing how it all began for him as a writer. Such funny anecdotes such as his conversation with his mother about his career choice and how she is supposed to explainte this to his father while on a boat trip to sell an old house. I really like it. You are taken to another time and other place and definetly see the life of the great Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Para quien se interese por un poco de historia de Colombia y de cómo hemos llegado a ser este país desangrado, edte libro hace una buena revisión de elementos de la historia a través de un personaje que la vivió rn carne propia. Más allá de eso, es un deleite la escritura fluida y sin mayores argucias literarias o palabras revuscadas de Gabo para contar un poco de su propia historia

El libro es buenísimo, particularmente el estilo de Gabo es genial y lo que lo hace aun mas meritorio es que se trata de un relato autobiográfico. Lamentablemente tengo que advertirles de un error de encuadernación en la edición de pasta dura (hardcover) las hojas vienen mal cortadas, he ya ordenado dos libros y los dos vienen con el mismo defecto. La editorial KNOPF ha hecho un muy mal trabajo. Mi recomendación... busquen otras editoriales.

El libro permite disfrutar el estilo literario de Gabo y su humor inesperado, mientras atraviesa al lector por toda la maraña de vivencias que se convirtieron en la base para muchos (si no todos) sus escritos. Me permitió conocer al Gabo reportero, que se volvió escritor mientras crecía en el gremio de periódicos del país. Recomendado para todo aquel que le guste la literatura de Gabriel García Márquez

Gabriel Garcia Marquez cuenta su historia de vida. Interesante saber del escritor como periodista así como de los hechos que vivía el país en ese momento. Me ayudó a entender de donde se inspiró para escribir sus obras magistrales.

It's hard to review `The Captain and "the Cannibal` without giving too many surprises away because the story continually takes unexpected turns. It's technically an academic history published by Yale ie. potentially unappealing to a broader audience, but it's part of the series "New Directions in Narrative History" .. narrative history is code for a strong storyline and interesting characters, you might even say it's "fiction that happens to be true". Fairhead has done a prodigious amount of research and has written the definitive account of Benjamin Morrell, a captain with many faces. I felt like I was transported back in time exploring the Pacific in the 1830s, but also discovering with Fairhead answers to long forgotten mysteries buried in family archives. This was simply a whole lot of fun and I'm delighted to have discovered it.

As noted by other reviewers, I would agree that this text is fairly high level and a good starter for getting the basic information and terminology of what a data warehouse is and does. I don't feel that after reading this, you would have all the information you would need to build/deploy a DW solution. As also noted by others, I felt many of the illustrations were not necessary and did not provide much help in visualizing any of the concepts. That being said, it provided the basic information that was easy to follow and understand. I'll be interested in reading other books on some of the specific components of the DW, such as the ODS and data marts.

I saw Ms. Imhoff give a talk, so I was motivated to buy her book. I was expecting more detail and more depth, but I was satisfied anyway. As a new comer to the data warehousing/OLAP field, I found it helpful to have a book that showed me the "forest"; many other books are available to show me the "trees."The book is a very high-level architectural overview of the components of a "corporate information factory", including the data warehouse, data mart, and operational data store. It describes the components and their relationships. It describes the motivations and reasons these components are organized the way they are. It describes some of the important engineering tradeoffs in alternate designs.The book is a quick and simple read. I got a few very important concepts and ideas from it, but I must definitely read several other books for greater depth and focus.

This is a good book for pele starting out in data warehousing, it is however very dated in the examples and I believe that the world of Analytics has moved on significantly

What a number of previous reviewers did not realise is that this book is about data warehouses, and not enterprise architecture, even though it is named to seem that way.This book is an excellent high level overview of data warehouses and should be read by anyone who is going to be building a data warehouse from scratch or needs a starting place to learn about data warehouses. It explains all the concepts that are involved in building a data warehouse and explains what things can cause problems when implementing one.It will not, however, describe the technical details on how to implement the data warehouse or many of the structures within it. That kind of information is readily available in many other books.This is a perfect starting point for learning about data warehouses and especially good since it is a quick read and will not waste your time with a lot of wordiness.

I approached this book with an open mind, but after I stumbled upon a couple of obviously wrong and some nonsensical statements, I started reading it much more skeptically, and finding more and more problems with it. (However, it did provide more fun ;))The book has a good premise, trying to explain information system with the factory metaphor. Although authors give some good insight in the way IS should or could be thought of and modeled, there are many instances in the text where you read something and say to yourself "what where these good people thinking". This then undermines your confidence in their vision and full understanding of the matter. And although I think this is a matter of personal preference, authors sometimes seem to be in love with their style, producing some beautiful nonsense like this: "The legacy environment is only a very small vestige of its former invincible self." (pg. 42)Let me give you some more examples of what I'm talking about:Authors create metaphors of user classes, calling them "tourist, farmer, explorer and miner", which in itself is not a bad idea, but then they go on to say "...farmers found at the ODS environment are quite different from the farmers found at the data mart". So why did you create the single metaphor then?Also, check this out: "A miner will typically look over many, many rows of data...". As opposed to what, just a "many rows of data"? Whence some people might need "not so many rows of data"? Like I'm reading a book for my eight-year-old, for goodness sakes!Then there is this graph showing the directional flow of data, but then it reads: by the way, in all this streams, data can sometimes ("in 1-5% of the cases" - authors never say how they got these numbers, it is all a slight of hand) flow in the opposite direction!!?(Pg. 24) And they go about giving 5 examples, 4 of which are wrong - there is no data flow in them at all!Example:"...sales dept. notes that loans are slowing down. The decision is made to reduce home loan rates by 1/2 percent."This is not the back flow of data, as authors assert, it is an information feedback loop that involves people (management), and their decisions. Data (loan rates) is not coming back from Data Mart. User is somehow entering it into Operational system (application). His decision is influenced by data analysis, but it does not reverse the data flow. The fundamental issue here is that authors ignored the fact that information processes in the company involve people as well as the data and systems, and should be modeled as such. To use their metaphor, users should be a part of the information ecosystem. Hence it is not true that, as the book claims, corporate information factory embodies the information ecosystem. (Pg.7)"...'event' date ...reflects the moment in time when the data in the record was accurate". (Pg. 96) This is incorrect. 'event' date is just recording the time of that single event. Record is always accurate after that, it does not 'age' with time.At pg. 191 it is asserted that Data Warehouse provides "depth" to the data. That is true only if it is built (modeled) with "depth" requirements in mind. Before I can get "deep" information from the DW, I must build it with my questions in mind, otherwise, it will not give me data. An abstractly deep DW does not exist. It is always an answer to a particular question, or number of questions."The Dimension of History" (pg. 193-194) is just plain good old nonsense, with example (life stages of an individual) being completely off the mark. Reminds me of the student who does not know the correct answer to the question so he tries to invent some plausible response, letting his imagination fly ... Sad.And so on, and so on...I saved the best ones for the end:"...the external world is full of normal occurrences and normal events. The very ordinary nature of the external world makes us take it for granted." (Pg. 49) Very philosophically deep, indeed ;)"The emergence of the integrated applications comes slowly and, in many cases, imperceptibly" (pg.42) Yeah, it just creeps on you when you're not looking... ;)".. the back flow of the data is minuscule to the point that in some cases it is so small as to be unmeasurable". (Pg. 23) :0 Beg your pardon? This is not quantum physics, guys, this is computer science. Anything can be observed, perceived and measured to the level of a single bit. Or are we talking bit-quarks here? Informational principle of uncertainty?It is disappointing to have this book co-authored by the "father of the data warehouse".To the (prospective) readers: This is a fun book if you are an experienced data architect, bad if you wish to use it as a blueprint for your work, and dangerous if you are an IT manager and impose it on your staff.To the authors: Give us a break, please go back and re-make a decent book around the good basic idea. Less poetic style would also be appreciated. Forget about quantum physics. And give it to some unbiased reviewers first. Remember, only the real friends will tell you the unpopular truth.

If you are planning or considering integration of your corporate data, then you should read this book. Written by Bill Inmon (father of the data warehouse concept), Claudia Imhoff (founder of Intelligent Systems) and Ryan Sousa (CTO Intelligent Systems) this book describes an architecture and methodology for integrating operational and informational systems. Of special interest to me were the metadata and internet chapters.

I had the pleasure of meeting Heather McCollum while at the Shameless Book Convention, October 2018. This gave me the opportunity to question her about her collection, and this was my first choice to explore.This historical novel is set in the Scottish Highlands in 1684.It is the story of two sisters, Evelyn Worthington and her sister, Scarlet, who escape England, both running for personal reasons.This story delves into the complicated relationship of Evelyn and Greyson Campbell- Chief of the Campbells, as Evelyn is attempting to start a school in Finarig Castle. The castle was purchased by Evelyn's brother, after it was wrongly taken from the Campbells, that also involved the death of Greysons parents. Greyson Campbell is still in residence in the castle.The challenges presented to each character showed the strength and determination of each, ignited their passion not only toward their cause but towards each other.I am looking forward to the next addition in this series, A Rose Without Thorns - the story of Scarlet Worthington.

What an enjoyable read. I know I'm in for a real treat reading one of Heather McCollum's stories. I 'm so impressed with her dedication to spreading the word about ovarian cancer, as well as developing strong characters for her tales. Grey and Evelyn were delightful, as well as many of her secondary characters.Romance and Highlander's at their best.

I enjoyed the H/h and the secondary character's. I was disappointed we didn't learn more about the little girl. Maybe her story will continue in the h's stories.Some far fetched storylines that seemed wrapped up too quickly. Romance does build slowly. There is lovemaking outside of marriage, mildly described rated maybe 3 out of 5.We have some nasty villains and one is still at large, assuming he will wreck havic in the next story. We have no cheating, no cliffhanger for our couple, but some questions on secondary character's are not answered and we get HEA.I can't improve on the blurb so not going into it. (Ljb)

Another amazing story by Heather McCollum! Loved how engaging the story was, pulled me in from the first chapter! Can’t wait to read book 2!

It was full of twist and turns. I kept rooting for her until the very end of the book.

I really liked the descriptions of Scottish traditions and dress. Also, the strong, passionate feelings and chivalry of the highlander for his lady fair. It was interesting how the events towards the end of the story happened. It all came together in a way I didn't see coming. Excellent work!

Wonderfully strong heroine ! Great story that kept me turning the pages to find out how it was going to end!

Book Rebel doesn’t send a lot of deals for Historical Romance but when they do they don’t diss appoint. This story had good writing and characters. Felt realistic to the time and good descriptions but most important a good story.
