I agree, he did it again. The author brings forward many difficult situations that we face in the world, but always with an answer that turns you back to the Word. He brings the gospel in such a practical way, answering hard questions with difficult answers in a way that everybody can relate. Divorce, rebellion, drugs, abuse are all around us, affecting most of us, leave wounds in our soul that only Jesus can heal. Tyler and Olivia's story touches your heart , because both of them ends up hurting , but God is ultimately in control. I appreciate the way Scripture is quoted and that the glory and honour is given to our Saviour.A book to be enjoyed and to be read more than once.

Mr. Chapin has once again captured the reality of life issues. His characters are brought to life by his skill at making them believable, lovable, and relevant. He doesn't preach, but the characters' common issues that people face and find how they find God can lead and direct, help them see Him at work in their lives. This is another wonderful book! I am very much looking forward to the next in this series!

Oh, wow! This is a very good book, a story of Tyler and Olivia. The picture of life without Christ as Savior and life with Christ as Savior is phenomenal. The book is full of Scripture, prayers, godly advise, and loving friends. This story also shows the depravity of a life of drugs, denying God's existence, and legalism. A Christian life is not about trying to obey the rules, but allowing God to fully live in us so we can obediently serve Him by choice. Tyler's character portrays unconditional love beautifully.

Oh my goodness! This book is so good! It is written so well and the characters seem so real. I love the longer book. I didn’t want to put it down. I have read many of T. K. Chaplin’s books. They are all wonderful. This one is the best!

It doesn’t come with a warning, though, so I will tell you. Don’t start this as a casual read - there are no exit ramps once you start this ride - you’ll want to race to the end.

Tear Me Apart is a very appropriate title for this book. It tells the story of an Olympic downhill skiing hopeful who crashes and severely breaks her leg. During the surgery, it’s discovered she has leukemia and eventually needs a stem cell transplant. It continues with the search for a donor and the realization that her family life is not what it seems. The intensity of the emotions that are dealt with rises with each discovery. The meltdown of one of the characters was very well thought out. She received one piece of bad news after the other and slowly felt like she was losing everything. The psychological impact on the character seemed to be accurately written to me. I thoroughly loved it and gave it 5 stars.

The first third of the book was such a humble that I almost have up on it. There were too many characters (if you can call letters from unknown people characters) and too much jumping around in time and, as a result, too much confusion. I think the book might have been helped by focusing on Monday and her story in the beginning and bringing the rest of it a little later on. Also, I found the mother and, later, the father very unlikable. The book did get better after the first third although the last fourth for a bit tedious. So a generous 3.5 for a book I was excited to read but, in the end, pretty disappointed by its flaws.

The first thing you need to know is this book will keep you up reading and will interfer with your life! I fould myself thinking about this book and wondering what would come next while I was out to dinner.No, I'm not going to give you a blub of the book, if you want that go read the Amazon blurb. If you like mysteries and want to be confounded by the twists and turns than this book is for you. It has more false trails than a sly fox could lay trying to get away from the hounds.We have a champion skier, perfect parents, two teens on a mental hospital for trying to commit suicide and one of them is a murderer, then last but not least we have a English professor never giving up on finding his daughter that was kidnapped when she was a few days old and finding the his wife's murderer. It's a wild ride finding out how all these people fit and who is the bad guy.You will not be sorry if you buy this book.

In the hospital, they find she has leukemia which can only be treated with a stem cell transplant.It is then they find her parents are not a match - Mindy is not their daughter. The story has you hanging onto every word and surprises keep popping up as we find out the real story behind the lives of this family. Lies, betrayals and murder find their way into the families surrounding Mindy.Never disappointed in a J.T.Ellison book.

I enjoyed reading many of JT Ellison’s detective Taylor Jackson books. I am a mystery-police procedural aficionado, who also reads suspense-thrillers, so I looked forward to reading this book.The premise is good, the execution terrible. Overly long and repetitive at nearly FIVE HUNDRED pages, three storylines, illogical scenarios, flashbacks galore, and caricatured characters suitable for a parody. PLUS eye-rolling hospital-based events and dubious medical situations. Are there isolation rooms that lock from the inside? With no way for security or police to open the door?By about 25% read, I posited the possible sequence of events, twists, turns, and side plots; and by 35% the crimes and culprit(s). Then I had to slog through the rest of the book. I tried listening to the Audible version, which featured very good voice actors, but they could not overcome the problems with the storyline, characters and the so-called twists.The ending was bathetic.

J.T. Ellison has written a lot of good books, but this twisty psychological/domestic/medical mystery-thriller is probably her best yet. The characters, whether likable or not, are all interesting, realistic people (plus there's a lovable dog), there are numerous secrets to be uncovered, and the conclusion is quite a shock. I did have a general idea where the story was going, but the author's excellent writing and storytelling made the book almost impossible to put down, and there were many surprising details and twists. This outstanding novel is not to be missed.

This book started off as an overly dramatic story that I almost gave up on, but it came together and gradually morphed into an engrossing book. Not very realistic in so many ways, but a great book for a long airplane ride. Don't look for realistic, believable characters or plotting, but a book to sit back and enjoy without too much thinking.

Not a lot of trips in NW New Mexico, which is really where so many tourists visit-- Santa Fe, Taos, etc. The drives we were able to do that covered that region were the normal route to take, so I didn't really need this book. It gave me literally one or two lines of additional info. about the areas I was passing through. Maybe we can use it again if we explore more of the southern and eastern parts of the state. No pictures and pretty limited overall, in my view.

Friendly folk, good food. Peaceful and plentiful.Wow. Looking forward to more road trips in the 4 Corners area.

Don't think we did any of the suggested routes in full, but definitely found routes we were glad we didn't miss with the helpful info. Have used on multiple trips. This paperback is poorly printed on recycled paper with badly reproduced black and white photos. The text and directions seem well written and helpful, although it’s too bad the writer’s words received such poor reproduction in printing.

This is a great book. I had no idea of regression therapy, however, this book really opened my eyes to something both stimulating and thought provoking. I have read all of Dr. Weiss's books which have opened my mind to much more than thought possible.

This is the fourth of Dr. Weiss' books that I've read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It clarifies and answers some of the mysteries of why we are here, why things happen in life and offers help in resolving difficult patterns. I am hungry to read and learn more.

There is the text, then the commentary.The essence of this book is that while you are busy making plans for the future,Death is coming, so you had better give up everything and do your Tibetan BuddhistPractice.In this way, you gain a favourable rebirth, instead of an unfavourable one.The original text in Tibetan is also included, which is good.The text talks about all three vehicles: the Hinayana, Mahayana, and Vajrayana.

This book carries the spirit of this enlightened man. Personally, I'm not a reader, though I've been in the esoteric field for 50 years. Therefore the words of this book were previously known, however the impact of his messages seem to find their way miraculously into the deeper parts of my being to resonate themselves into manifestation. . . You don't have to be a Tibetan Buddhist scholar to understand or benefit from the wisdom contained within these pages. This book is great for the beginner or the seasoned practitioner.The book is a commentary of Patrul Rinpoche's "The Heart of The Enlightened Ones". It begins with the commentary but also contains the root text of Patrul Rinpoche's writing. There is a short biography included of Patrul Rinpoche and also of Dilgo Khyentse. That was a real treat! Also included are a section of notes, a bibliography and an index. The root text contains the Tibetan script as well as the English translation.This book is a real treasure. We are so fortunate to have great masters translated into English. Dilgo Khyentse explains the importance of Chenrezi's six-syllable mantra [Om Mani Padme Hum (page 58)], as well as the importance of intention in regards to action (page 66) and how to handle wrongdoing and accumulated negativity (page 68). This book is full of great instruction, explanations of Tibetan Buddhism, and wisdom.This book is a must read for anyone who is serious about practicing Tibetan Buddhism. It's great to get back to the basics of practice. I will definitely come back to re-read this book again. Once is simply not enough!

Therefore, the English text of this poem takes up only 21 pages of this book.The celebrated, 20th Century Tibetan Buddhist master, Dilgo Khyentse (1910-1991) contributes a 161 page "commentary" on Petrul Rinpoche's 21 page poem. Dilgo Khyentse's commentary is the "heart" of this book. This book offers a unique opportunity for readers to obtain an impression of the Buddhist scholarship of Dilgo Khyenste, who is the subject of a biographical film entitled BRILLIANT MOON.In its original Tibetan, Petrul Rinpoche's poem is purportedly a LITERARY masterpiece. However, this literary masterpiece quality is probably lost in English translation.A unique and fascinating feature of this "book" is that the text of Dilgo Khyenste's "commentary" was not written by Dilgo Khyentse, but spoken, in an "oral transmission." As the "Translators' Preface" notes (p. xiii - upper case for emphasis): "Although the commentary is presented here in the form of a book, it should not be forgotten that it is not a text that Khyenste Rinpoche wrote down over a period of time and then pondered, corrected, revised, adjusted, added to, and deleted from. HE SIMPLY SPOKE IT, JUST AS IT IS."An odd feature of Dilgo Khyentse's oral transmissions is that, when listened to, his oral delivery is robotic, in a monotonous monotone, without any pauses for, e.g., emphasis, like he is reciting a Buddhist chant. But what he actually says is "alive" in rich content. His Buddhist mind is like a computer, processing it's Buddhist data base - quite a tour de force.The nature of Dilgo Khyentse's oral delivery is wonderfully illustrated by a "film clip" in a DVD about Dilgo Khyentse entitled BRILLIANT MOON. In this film clip of a Dilgo Khyentse oral "teaching," the English translation of his words is printed at the bottom of the screen, as he speaks. The text of the English translation indicates that he delivers a composed statement of compelling wisdom, precise and well stated. However, this oral "teaching" is sound recorded and, in English translation, may have been edited (for clarity). There is a total disconnect between the rich content of his oral teaching and his method of oral delivery.Parenthetically, Patrul Rinpoche - who authored the poem which is the subject of Dilgo Khyenste's commentary - also authored a magisterial tome entitled WORDS OF MY PERFECT TEACHER, a comprehensive overview of Tibetan Buddhism - which appears to be his magnum opus. Most of Patrul Rinposhe's written work has not survived. The first Yale University Press edition of WORDS OF MY PERFECT TEACHER was published in 2011, comprising an intimidating 500 pages, with the twice the number of words per page as in Dilgo Khyenste's THE HEART TREASURE OF THE ENLIGHTENED ONES.

This book is great! If you are interested in the evolutionary history of humans and their parasites, this is the book for you. It was exciting, revealing, educational, as well as appropriately ghoulish when describing the great plagues of recorded history, especially "Justinian's Plague" (6th century) and the Great Plague of the 14th century. His comparison between our micro-parasites (bacteria, worms, viruses) and our "macro-parasites" (governments, armies ,raiders, plunderers) was a particularly thought-provoking aspect of the book.Not for the faint of heart.

There does seem to be a correlation between the years that a writer immerses her or himself in the subject matter and the sheer number of sources cited. And then there are those writers that expand their own horizons and encompass and become proficient in many different subjects. Well, this book was deftly written by a writer of history that has also become proficient in biology. There's simply no other way to come up with the wonderfully focused hypothesis that there are not only microparasites in the environment, but also macroparasites such as governments and, well, business and real estate owners. It is our job to try to successfully negotiate our lives while keeping both forms at bay. In the past, however, and I'm talking from around 500 BC to near-present, microparasites weren't known about. When the plague--termed Pasturella pestis in the book instead of the more typically named Yrsinia pestis today--occurred it wasn't known to be a microparasite. No, it was blamed on many things, god, Jews, sin, any scapegoat really, until around 1850 in some places, though even today you'll find misdirection in knowledgeless pockets.What is more, the author took great pains to research how often and what impact microparasite had on the course of human history, flushing out the 100s of times it occured in China alone from recorded history in 320 or so BC, based upon the work of Joseph Cha. So maybe many of the wars that were won by the few over the many were done so because the many were already being microparasitized and couldn't defend themselves. Too, the real winner has been the microparasites, having killed far more than any war, though they killed mostly when introduced to a population that hadn't seen them before, for a "proper" parasite will learn to not kill in order to best survive. And that is where we are today, at an equilibrium of population with both macro and microparasites, thanks no doubt to medical science enabling our uneasy relationship.Highly recommended... - lc

The thesis of the book is quite interesting. Occasionally, some of the postulations and historical facts engage you.But overall, this book is in dire need of a better editor. I read a lot of heavier nonfiction and understand that such topics won’t read like fiction. Even so, this was hard to read. I rarely ever quit on a book but seriously considered doing so about 50 pages in. Thankfully, the last 3/4 of the book are better.

In this 1976 work, acclaimed historian William McNeill investigated the role of parasitism (both micro in the form of disease and macro in the form of rulers and governments) on the rise and fall of historical societies. To say that "Plagues and Peoples" was a success would be a monumental understatement as almost all subsequent discussions of the role of disease in history start from here. In discussing the way in which epidemics begin, run through a population and then may become a part of a series of non-lethal but persistent childhood diseases, McNeill arrives at a paradigm that fundamentally alters the way in which epidemiology is seen historically. In short, this work was and still is revolutionary.The biggest drawback of the book is the style in which it is written. The text is written in the way in which a scholar might have communicated with interested colleagues outside of the typical discourse one might find in scholarly journals. As such, the language is somewhat geared towards the specialist and the text assumes the reader has at least a passing familiarity with the broader historical context of the societies the author is discussing. While this isn't as much of a problem for the discussions about epidemics affecting the west, there is a good bit of material about China, India, the Middle East and Africa (though less so in the last three). Also, the chapters are often rather long and span several thematic ideas which would likely have been separated into separate chapters had the book been written to more recent editorial guidelines. This makes the book a bit of tough sledding at times as it can tend to bog down with the sheer weight of the information being presented and a lack of a narrative thread at times.For me, the most compelling discussion was the effect of the introduction of Old World diseases into the New World. The mortality statistics are stunning and offer a chilling prediction of what might happen if a disease to which there is little resistance is released into a modern urbanized setting.I recommend this book to any student of history, epidemiology or sociology. Be prepared to push through some dense text but you will definitely be rewarded for your perseverance.
