Chelsea has moved back to NYC from Los Angeles to flee her ex. She's hoping he won't be able to find her and their son. She is working as a waitress in a sleazy bar just barely making it. While working at night she comes home to find her apartment building on fire. Thankfully the fire department are already there. Finn is a firefighter and sees Chelsea and recognizes his first love from high school. He's surprised to see her here. He thought she would be well on her way to becoming a doctor. She left him to become a doctor. He went on to become a fireman. Since Chelsea doesn't have anywhere to stay, he takes her and her son Oliver to stay with him. He is immediately taken with Oliver and wonders if they had stayed together whether they would have had a son that looked like him. While they still have chemistry together, he doesn't want to give her the wrong idea but then Chelsea thinks he doesn't want her. Both sides are hurting. But Chelsea has a hard time asking for help since her parents weren't ever there for her and she had to do for herself. Can Finn keep her safe and can they have a second chance? Nice story of second chances.I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy but purchased it as I wanted a permanent copy in my library.
This story is about second chances. A second chance for Finn and Chelsea. A second chance for you to get hooked on this series if you aren't already. Finn was introduced in book one but we really get to know him in this book. Personally the fact that he's a hunky firefighter is all I need to know*sigh*. His and Chelsea's story is one that is plausible. I believe that's what made it a book I couldn't put down.*I received an Advance Reader's Copy as well as purchasing a copy which I am voluntarily reviewing*
If you like firefighter romances, you will enjoy this book. I really liked the characters, Finn and Chelsea. They were interesting, well-developed and have chemistry. The story is interesting, well-written with a happily ever after. In addition to receiving an arc, I purchased the book for my collection.
Chelsea is running from her abusive ex with their four year old son. She returns to the place she left after high school and runs into the boyfriend she left years ago. He cares about her but doesn't want to re-start their relationship. Chelsea knows she has no chance at a future with Finn when she has to run and hide from her ex. Then her ex finds her and she has to run again.Chelsea has had a hard life. Horrible parents, a controlling abusive ex, a jerk boss, no money and constantly in fear. She and her son don't deserve it and Finn wants to help, but Chelsea doesn't want to ruin his life too. She still loves him too much for that to happen.The connection between Finn and Chelsea felt real, as did her struggles. How far will two people go to protect each other and a little boy? This was an enjoyable read with a resilient woman and a determined hero.I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Her apartment catches fire and Finn and his crew are there putting it out when Chelsea arrives she's screaming for her child who was home with the babysitter. They are both safe. This is when Chelsea and Finn run into each another after seven years apart. High school sweethearts. Electricity is sparking between the two but they are denying destiny as Chelsea is worried of the danger that is lurking around her. Finn is fighting off the feels that are starting to stir within. This is an amazing book that captivates you from the beginning until the end, if your looking for a book that intrigues your mind and you can't put it down, then this is the one for you. It is intense and made me want more.Chelsea has been through hell. She is a strong woman who is learning to stand on her own two feet. She is very brave.Finn is the perfect person for her. A firefighter, who has a heart of gold. He is honorable and compassionate.The connection is what kept me turning the pages in this book.
